Prof.(Dr.) Gopal Mugeraya obtained his B.Tech. and M.Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering from NITK Surathkal and obtained his Ph.D from Indian Institute of Science,(IISc.) Bangalore in the area of Biochemical Engineering/Industrial pollution control. He was Director of NIT Agartala for 4 years. Before joining NIT Agartala, He had been serving as Faculty at NITK Surathkal. In addition to teaching, he is actively involved in research, consultancy, administrative activities and coordination of technical projects. He has published more than 75 papers in National and International Journals and Conferences and coordinated more than 35 Industry oriented projects at P.G. level and 9 Ph.D in the area of Industrial Pollution Control and Solid Waste Management.
Prof.(Dr.)Gopal Mugeraya, recipient of the prestigious “Hindustan Door-Oliver National Award-2000” by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and also “ World Environment Day-Parisara award 2001” by Govt. of Karnataka. He was also awarded “Biotechnology Overseas Associate ship Award 2004” by DBT, Govt. of India and undergone advance training during August 2005 to December 2005 at Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Riverside, USA in the area of Biosensors and Bioremediation. He was deputed to “Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok (AIT)” by Govt. of India during August 2003 as Visiting Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering (SERD). He is a life member ISTE, IIChE, IAEM, ECSI and Biosensors and Bioremediation Society of India.
He was an elected member of Academic Council of Mangalore University from Teachers Constituency and served as Chairman of BOE, BOS and various such bodies of many Universities in India. He was selected and nominated as one of the member Indian Delegation by United States-Asia Environmental Programme (USAEP) to prepare and extensive report on Solid Waste Management in USA and Canada during June 1997. He was deputed by Govt. of India to select NRI students to various NITs from various Gulf Countries like Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain. He attended the 19th International Conference on Solid Waste Technology and Management at Philadelphia, USA during March 2004 and presented a theme paper in the Conference.
He was nominated for the International Programme on “Change Management for Human Resources Development in TVET Systems” in March 2007 at Manila, Phillipines.
Prof.(Dr.)Gopal Mugeraya, was also the Chief Coordinator of :TIFAC CORE” Industrial Biotechnology”, one of the ambitious technical projects of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST) New Delhi. Dr Mugeraya visited University of Auburn USA, University of Monash Australia for research interaction.
He was also involved with NBA of AICTE, as accreditation expert member for more than fifty Institutions all over India for the last ten years. He is the Chairman of Technical Advisory Committee of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and also the BoG member nominated by Senate of NITK.
Prof.(Dr.) Mugeraya has the distinction of joining NITK Surathkal as a student during 1977 and has the privilege of serving NITK as Head of the Department, Chief Warden of NITK Hostels, Advisor-I of AICTE, Dean (Academic) NITK Surathkal, and Dean (Student’s Welfare), BOG member of NITK, Surathkal.
Now he is serving as the DIRECTOR of National Institute of Technology Goa.
